    Spring is in the Air

It’s official, the sun is peeping from behind the clouds, we can glimpse some blue skies and the trees are starting to blossom – Spring is finally on its way here at Olympian Garden Buildings!

Now is the ideal time to make any garden improvements, starting with a good clear out of any debris caused by the winter storms we’ve faced and give some thought to the planting in your garden so you can reap the rewards in Summer.

Tidy up your flower beds and borders and plan ahead by ordering your summer-flowering bulbs and seeds now. You can re-site any deciduous shrubs up to mid-March and evergreens by the end of March. It’s so much easier to envision your garden in bloom when the sun is shining, and you’ll be so pleased that you made the effort now.

If you’ve not done so already, you should think about making your garden more eco-friendly by introducing water butts and a compost area if you have the space. If you’re culling any large trees you could install a log store to season the logs in ready for use next winter.

The brighter days are perfect for treating your fences and any existing garden buildings to prolong their life. We recommend our own brand of coloured preservative and clear water repellent treatment that is available to buy from our factory in 5 litre containers, and Osmo Oil (which has a UV blocker in it) which is designed to go onto tanalised timber.

If you purchased your building from Olympian Garden Buildings it will have been made from fully tanalised timber and this treatment process gives a much longer lasting protection against rot and fungal decay than dipped or sprayed timber, however it will always benefit the building to have an additional preservative on it to repel the water.

General maintenance around your garden building is always a good idea too, such as pruning back any over-hanging trees and branches and cutting back bushes that may release water onto the timber.

Of course, if you don’t already have a garden building now is the time to start looking. Do you need simple shed storage or a summerhouse to relax in and enjoy your garden? Workshops for larger storage or insulated rooms for multi-use such as working from home or home gyms – but that’s a whole other blog! Whatever you are looking for, you can find inspiration on our website www.olympiangardenbuildings.co.uk. A visit to our showroom is recommended as you can experience the quality of our products, and with over 80 buildings to view we have the largest display in the North West.
